COVID-19 Information Update

23 March 2020

Following the Government’s announcements on 22 March 2020 restricting all non-essential travel, and closing all pubs, clubs, casinos, cafes and restaurants (excluding take-away), we are now seeing many closures and changes to our town’s services.  As well as restaurants and cafes choosing to temporarily close the majority of our tour operators are also temporarily closing.

Some restaurants and cafes remain open for take-away and many are now also offering a delivery service. Many of our coffee shops are also still open for take-away.

Our weekly Sunday Market has been temporarily suspended.

Coles Supermarket continues to be well stocked most of the time with problem items continuing to be pasta and toilet paper.

To our valued past, present and future guests.

With the recent developments in the spread of COVID-19, we wanted to reach out to you with regards to what we are doing here at Garrick House to support you and your travel plans.

We have always taken great pride in maintaining an extremely high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. We wanted to reassure you that in addition to this already high standard, we have also implemented a number of additional cleaning measures in our public areas and guest apartments. These measures include, but are not limited to, increased frequency to the cleaning of our public areas such as our reception, swimming pool and poolside BBQ/bathroom facilities. Additional apartment cleaning measures have been implemented including additional disinfecting of high-touch areas.

In addition, we would like to take the opportunity to update you on the current situation within Port Douglas. We are extremely lucky to currently have no confirmed cases of the coronavirus within our community.

Port Douglas is business as usual with tours, restaurants, cafes and shops currently mostly operating as normal. The only current changes are the closure of Mossman Gorge Centre (currently until 31 March 2020) and the Skyrail reducing their days of operation from 7 days down to 5 days (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat).

We have two supermarkets within Port Douglas that are well stocked and another just 20 minutes’ drive north. To date the only supply issues within the supermarkets relate to toilet paper which thankfully is not a concern for our guests as this is provided in your stay!

We will continue to update this page with any further information as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us by phone on (07) 4099 5322, or via email at
